A Study Tip You May Have Missed — Not Studying
Don’t let the title throw you off; this is very much so a post about studying. Studying can be tedious, difficult, and downright unenjoyable compared to the myriad of alternatives that life offers us in exchange for our time.
Today, our advice is: take a few of those alternatives.
Hear us out. A healthy person is in a much better position to do well in school than an unhealthy person. Most people agree on this point. It stands to reason, therefore, that academic success is not merely a matter of logging a sufficient volume of study hours but a matter of being all-around healthy as a human being.
Healthiness is a lot more than taking care of your body; you have a brain as well that comes with its own needs much like your muscles, heart, and skin. So, here is the point we are trying to get to—you have to take care of your mind. Eating right is a start, but mental wellness goes deeper than what you put into your body.
Maybe you are the kind of student that fills your schedule to the brim with extracurriculars. Maybe you are the kind of student who struggles to find the motivation to get out of bed or do something besides binge your favorite show on Netflix. Whatever kind of student you are, it is very likely that activity geared toward mental wellness would greatly ameliorate your focus, state of mind, and academic success.
So, as a friendly reminder, take care of your mental health. Try going for a hike. Try taking a book to a park and reading under a tree. Get outside. Get exercise. Take some you-time. Talk to someone you trust about what you are struggling with in life. Your mind, and schoolwork, will thank you for it.
